The International Research Laboratory for Modelling of Physical Processes in Biology and Medicine was established in 2014 as a part of Physics Faculty of TSU. The Laboratory is headed by Professor Herman Kingma, Maastricht University (the Netherlands).
The employees from Maastricht University, Tomsk State University, Siberian State Medical University, and The E.D. Goldberg Research Institute of Pharmacology and Regenerative Medicine are associated with the Laboratory. Current Lab members also include 1 Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences and 1 Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, 8 Professors awarded the title of Doctor of Sciences and 6 Candidates of Sciences (PhD).
The Laboratory aims to develop new world-class research in biomedicine based on interdisciplinary knowledge (physics, chemistry, biology, medicine, engineering, and computer sciences). The Laboratory conducts the interdisciplinary research into the development of new techniques for biological and physical and mathematical modelling of the vestibular apparatus of the human brain with the use of high-performance systems and technologies designed for gaining new knowledge of the human vestibular malfunction and improving the methods and means of vestibular implantation.
Modern thoroughly developed medical and biological knowledge of structures and functions of the main components of living systems requires combination of conventional methods based on facts and observation with mathematical modelling of physical processes in living systems to enable more reliable data processing. To date, significant development of sciences of living systems is impossible without methods of structuring and modelling. Reliable mathematical methods for modeling and numerical experiments should be employed in order to achieve groundbreaking results in the field of bio-medical research.
